Midwinter Coronation 2007 Activities
The main Coronation activities are outlined below; some timings and details are still provisional. Please also refer to the detailed logistics information. Questions are most welcome.
Fri evening: Welcome Revel
This is a casual garbed pot-luck revel the evening before the Main Event. You'll be able to register for the event, meet up with old and new friends and share in the relaxed revelry. There is no fee for the welcome revel, just bring some light period finger-food food to share as an informal supper. (That means have dinner first). Also, two gentles will be sent to peerage vigil on this evening.

Sat: Coronation Court
The main Coronation Courts take place from late morning to mid-afternoon Saturday in the Great Hall of the Arts Centre. Have a good breakfast or brunch beforehand, then gather in the Great Hall between 10:30am and 11:00am, at which point the doors will be closed for the event's Opening Court.
There will be a break for conversation, photography and perhaps strolling among the Arts Centre colonnades and markets, after which Coronation Court itself will commence at 12:30pm.
At the end of Coronation Court, Their Majesties will call the Knights of the Realm to Council for a time, after which it will be time to set off for the Feast, at about 3pm.
Live music will fill the hall at appropriate times, whether as part of the ceremony or as soft background accompaniment during breaks. A large fireplace will ward off winter chills and add to the ambience.

Sat: Promenades
Coronation Feast and First Court is held about 15 minutes walk from the Great Hall (see logistical information). The stroll takes you through the magnificent Botanical gardens, across a river footbridge, through a tended woodland and across a four-lane road (not especially busy at this time) to a hall set in parkland. Visual and aural treats will entertain promenaders at times during their stroll.
After the Feast (from around 7pm), walkers will return in parties guided by lantern-bearers, using a slightly different riverbank route because the gardens are closed at that time. Relaxed walking time is under 20 minutes by this route.

Sat afternoon: Feast
Coronation Feast will start at 4pm in a candle-lit, richly-bedecked and well-warmed hall. The fare will consist of hearty comestibles suitable for the season, cooked by the reknowned Peerless Kitchen. The first of several elaborate Sotelties, this one from the hand of Lady Ceina, will also grace the occasion.
The First Court of the new Reign will take place between the first and second courses of the Feast.
Your feast gear can be transported from the Great Hall to the Feast Hall, but it must be packed in a bag or basket and clearly labelled with your name. Please hand it into the Gate at the Great Hall for transportation.
Personal feast gear will be placed on tables in the Feast Hall foyer and may be collected from there on your arrival.
Personal washing-up facilities at the Feast Hall are not available. There will be a set of tables with rubbish bins and Wet Wipes provided for you to do a quick preliminary clean of your feast gear at the end of the feast. We advise you to bring a plastic or leakproof bag to place used gear in.
If you wish your feast gear transported back to the Great Hall, please place it back on the tables in the Feast Hall foyer. All gear will be returned to the Green Room at the back of the Great Hall stage before the end of the Ball.
There will be a large changing room available at the Feast Hall venue, with some screening for privacy, should you wish to show off more garb at the Feast, or change between the Feast and the Ball.

Sat evening: Special Entertainment
The evening of the Ball will see a Very Special Entertainment in the form of a unique show of sparkling pageantry for the delight of Their Majesties and the populace. This Special Entertainment is one not usually seen at our events, due to its Very Special Nature, but is sure to delight all who assemble to witness it.
To ensure that this Rare Conceit does not empty the Royal Coffers, we sought funding from generous donors and are pleased to advise that that support, plus the proceeds of a very successful Fighter Auction at Canterbury Faire this year, have fully funded the Special Entertainment, with a small surplus donated to the Kingdom Travel Fund.

Sun: Queen's High Tea
The Queen's High Tea is an optional part of the event which takes place at the magnificent Sign of the Takahe manor house on the Port Hills overlooking Christchurch. The venue itself is remarkable inside and out; you'll spend a comfortable hour just working out the heraldry on the many painted shields inside. The high tea (tea or coffee and endless scones) will be supplemented by another Soteltie, this one from Lady Veronica.
For those without their own transport, a bus will depart at 11:30am from the central-city Our City venue (at which the morning's activities were held) to the Sign of the Takahe, and will return there after Queen's Champion Tourney, i.e. between 4pm and 5pm. See transport logistics for more information.

Sun: Picnic Lunch
During the Queen's Champion Tourney, onlookers may optionally avail themselves of a light picnic lunch. Other than a goblet or tankard, feast gear will not be required for this. The Sign of the Takahe will also open their ground-floor area for our use and will offer a bar service there, very likely including mulled wine and/or cider.

Sun: Queen's Champion Tourney
The Champion's Tourney will be held in the walled grounds of the Sign of the Takahe from 1:00pm to approx. 3:00pm on Sunday. All local and visiting fighters are encouraged to take part, and to dress and comport themselves to the highest standards, that they may vie for the favour of the new Queen. Anyone may win, but the Queen will decide for herself who her Champion will be.
After the Queen's Champion has been announced, the new King will be among those fighting pickups until the site is formally closed some time between 4:00pm and 5:00pm.
Note: in the event of bad weather, pavilions and the ground floor of the Sign of the Takahe will provide significant shelter for onlookers. If conditions completely preclude a normal Tourney, the Queen and the Tourney organiser may opt to hold some alternate activities under shelter as a Queen's Whim Tourney.

Sun: Wind-down at The Hermitage
After the event is closed, as many as will fit -- especially those travellers who are in town for a little extra time -- are most welcome to attend a relaxed, non-garbed wind-down at the Baronial Residence, aka The Hermitage.
Pizza orders will be taken at some point in the evening or you can bring your own food and drink with you.
NB: Please park on the street and walk up.
Tuesday 9th, from 7:30pm: Fighting Collegium at Council Venue
An indoor fighting Collegium will be held at the normal Southron Gaard Council venue. Interested fighters are encouraged to attend for tuition and practice with visiting fighters, including the new King, Sir Hugh the Little.
