APOLOGIES: Al (William), Melissa (Catalina), Brent (Fraser) MEETING OPENED: 7.32 LAST MEETINGS MINUTES: Accepted OFFICER REPORTS: SENESCHAL: Attended the Fimbulwinter event. Had a talk with Lady Avril and Fridr about setting up a canton. I have since been in contact with Fridda via email over this. Received notification from kingdom EM, William de Wyke accepted as SG marshal. Still trying to get signatories changed over. I posted the form to Sinech, however it went to her old address. She is currently trying to find it. Bits of correspondence regarding the authorisation status. It mostly seems to be cleared up now. Received quarterly reports from almost all officers. Submitted Seneschal quarterly report on time. Various correspondence to do with the combat rule changes. Correspondance about College Event sign in forms. College events need a sign in form, but do not charge the non-member surcharge. CHATELAINE: Briefly stopped by a fighters practice and gave a "welcome to the SCA booklet" to some interested people September so far - referred one person on to Hera for hire garb, sorting out billets for bal d'argent visitors, message passed on from Cat from somebody called Lois who has some hire garb in her possession, no luck contacting her so far REEVE: Current Account Balances Cheque 2831.42 FTT 44.25 Clearing Account 5708.59 No money going out. Had a few coming in though, from Bal d'Argent and CF. Started to sort out the signatories for the bank accounts. Signed the forms and gave them to Roland to sort while I was on Uni Holidays. HERALD: Received message from Crux informing us that we also need the paperwork for the SG arms change, before we can do the augmentation. The augmentation and the change must be sent as two separate submissions. I completed the relevant paperwork and got enough members of the populace to sign it. It has now been sent off and should be in the submissions process. Attended the Fimbulwinter event. Had a heralding competition won by Trish of St Kessog. I will be in contact with her about getting her setup as a herald. Ran two Baronial courts. AoA went out to Lady Avril of Didham, and a Tour d'Or to Lord Dauid de Cochrane. MARSHAL: I officially became marshal at some point earlier this month. No events of significance to report. Have sent a couple of emails regarding the society rule changes to the lists and will continue to keep people updated as more information comes to light. CHIRURGEON Events Attended (Not in chronological order): Baronial Anniversary: Attended, one flesh wound treated. Yule: Attended, no injuries. Feburary muster: Attended, no injuries. Fimbulwinter: Attended, no injuries. (Aside from a few hangovers, that is.) St Kessog First meeting: Attended, no injuries. St Kessog first feast: Attended, no injuries. Am actually warranted as a chirurgeon in Lochac, til my first aid certificate expires in 16 October, but I am planning to be on a refresher ASAP, so may not -technically- be warranted for a few weeks. I am now in possession of the chirurgeons box, and banner, from the quartermaster. The box generally causes more harm than it has saved. Since prodding Ld Michelet has not worked, I'm requesting up to $70 for a new one, which will be hideously modern (Probably will make a bag for the essentials, for at long events), but light and safe-to-move. For reference, one on TradeMe priced at $69.95 seems exhaustive in what it contains -http://www.trademe.co.nz/Sports/Hockey/auction-69503725.htm. A&S: At Medieval Stuff Night this month, in lieu of a structured A&S class, please bring any items that you would like to swap, sell, trade, loan or give-away. This applies, of course, only to SCAdian type items. Ideas for items include extra armour and/or garb, fabric, trims, feast gear, camping gear. The list is endless! Please consider lending your A&S projects (completed or in-progress) to the A&S Display at the Bal d'Argent. Documentation is not required, but always a bonus! Lady Ceina will be your go-to person on the day, please take your items to her at the Bal. CHRONICLER: FTT went out at the beginning of the month. Was held over by a few days by request from the Baron who wanted to include a missive from the Kingdom. As a result the Seneschal's report was included :) Trialled a new format for the calendar, still working on it but like the initial result. Feedback always welcome, as are contributors. CONSTABLE: Nothing to report. WEBWRIGHT: Usual updates plus Bal d'Argent info. Also production, testing and initial publicity of CF online booking form. And new steward resources section at http://sg.sca.org.nz/stewards.htm#resources -additions welcome. Established mailing list and initial web site for proposed canton now forming in Otago. Working on Coronation website and its booking form next. Still needing the following officer job descriptions for http://sg.sca.org.nz/docs/OfficerDescriptions.doc - Herald, Quartermaster, Reeve, Lists, Marshal QUARTERMASTER: Have received almost all of the stuff back from Adele and Therese, one small box accidentally overlooked, will be reclaimed shortly. Have experimented with the new 'only exactly what you want' system for the St Kessog event. Haven't yet got things back from that, but barring any huge system failures, will be implementing this system for the future. Reminder to stewards to place your order fairly well in advance, and thanks to recent stewards who have been so easy to deal with. Have undertaken some candle/candlestick experimentation, to see if we can come up with a solution to the wax on tablecloths problem. Further experimentation required, report next month. Correspondence received regarding the return of the Marshall's gear to the Quartermaster's inventory. I believe this will be occurring post Bal d'Argent. ARCHERY CAPTAIN B&B: Attended St Kessog Midwinter event with around a dozen others from the northern parts of Southron Gaard; thanks to all those who assisted with the event (see attached report to the mailing lists); discussed formation of canton in the south and will continue to monitor and assist its progress. Attended Stuff night, Seamsters, singing, fighters practice and archery (latter as targets for new archers). = Fimbulwinter Report Unto all good folk do Bartholomew and katherine, Baron and Baroness of Southron Gaard, send greetings. We are pleased to be able to report on the warm hospitality and good cheer so ably demonstrated by the folk of St Kessog over the past weekend at the first Fimbulwinter encampment. The only thing that failed to live up to expectations was the weather -- with balmy climes belying the location in the deep south! The indefatigable Steward, Lady Avril of Didham was recognised by the Crown in May as well deserving of an AoA but this occasion provided the first opportunity to present her with her scroll. She will be the first of many brought to the attention of the Crown should the fine examples of service and courtesy continue in such fashion as exemplified by all this weekend. We are delighted to see archery progressing so well until the careful tutelage of Brendan, with Yad taking the hard-fought competition, and we were pleased to recognise Lord Dauid de Cochrane's sterling contributions to the Barony in this area with a Tour d'Or. Clearly there is good interest in the development of fighting prowess, so ably demonstrated in the light tourney, ultimately taken by James of Southron Gaard, along with the first cries of a Kessogian field herald well-voiced by Trish. The helms graciously sponsored by Sir Vitale and Lord William de Wyk were put to good use and it will be many a year that the cries of "Venezia" and "St George" will be heard upon the field. It came as no surprise to see the enthusiastic uptake of the eastern dance form so gracefully espoused by Lady Isabel Maria del Aguila, and the western dance taught by Nataliya of Southron Gaard. St Kessog folk proved light on their feet and supple in their hip joints! And we are confident that St Kessog is following in the Southron Gaard tradition of feeding everyone very well and often. Kotek of Southron Gaard did us all proud with the delicious feast -- may it be the first of many that sees him rule the kitchen. Our thanks to all those who prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as all those who helped clean up afterwards. Although such service is not the stuff of legend, nonetheless it is very much appreciated -- and remember, Sir Gareth of King Arthur's Round Table began his life in the kitchens! It was a delight to see the tower of Southron Gaard on the banner of St Kessog, displayed below the proudly bent bow. And pleasing to have the first outing of the baronial banners worked on by so many decorating the hall and letting our people know of the extent of the lands of Lochac. There are plans afoot to extend the populace in the south, with interest in the formation of a canton to broaden and support the operations of the College. Lady Avril and Fridr will have further discussions regarding this and we are confident that all Southron Gaarders will welcome new folk. Our thanks once again to all concerned, Bartholomew and katherine DEMO REQUESTS:- None EVENT REPORTS: BAL D'ARGENT: Every thing on track. JULY CORONATION: Everything going well with planning, There will be another planning meeting next month. CF 07- Everything is going well, bookings are arriving, David (Llewelyn) will present the budget next month. OCTOBER MUSTER: will be at Ray Blank park (which has toilets) on Sunday the 22nd of October sometime in the late morning. There will be a single sword tourney and a boffer tourney The cost of park hire is about $45, which the barony will cover. NOVEMBER EVENT: David (David) is planning an event that is similar to last years siege event but for archery. It will be at Rimu Park on Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th of November. Sam will cook the feast on Saturday Night. Idea is that it is now 1346 and the English have longbows which are just fantastic in war, Edward III wishes to celebrate this. There will be diverse amusements for the populace, possibly siege engines as well. GENERAL BUSINESS SCANZ insurance ACTION: Roland to check status Rule changes for combat have to be implemented as we are NOT exempt as previously thought. This means that Armour standards must be raised, and all non-contact combatants are abolished. Various baronages are concerned about this as are many archers. Any questions about these changes can be directed to the Marshal, Seneschal or the Baron and Baroness. Kingdom levy on forms: Only Southron Gaard does this. We should stop. Financial Guideline document: When Colleen (Adele) has finished making it, Peter (Bartholomew) will put it on the Website. The Baronial PO Box actually belongs to Colleen (Adele) and Meredith (Terese). They are fine with us using it, and it so are we, because they are expensive for the value we would receive from it. We have been approached by those running the A+P show on 11th October at Ellismere (in Leeston). They would like us to have a demo of fighting at 11.30 and also offered space for displays. We could also have fliers for the muster there. Arms and Militaria Show would also like us to re-attend next year, and do lots of fighting. We will need the UCMRS to help with this as it is the weekend after Coronation. First Aid Box. We need one. They are about $70. Unanimously in favour of spending the money. Library interloan with St Kessog will be logistically difficult at this stage, may reconsider later Meeting closed: 8.32 pm.
