officially sponsored by the Barony. A number of activities are held
regularly, such as fighters' and archery practices, meetings for newcomers, the Singing group and the Seamsters.
If you are not yet involved with the SCA but would like to attend
any of the listed events, we'd be happy to see you. It may help to read
the notes for newcomers first. You may also choose to contact our Chatelaine for more information, or join the Southron Gaard Discussion list (SGDiscuss).

Regular Activities
Throughout the year, a number of regular activities are held to help
foster arts and sciences, the fighting arts and keep the Barony running
smoothly.
Heavy Fighters' Practices
Fighters' practices are held once or twice a week and all are
welcome, whether to fight or to watch. Some gear is available for
beginners to try. Venues:
Sunday mornings, 10am: All year around, unofficial practices are
held at Richmond Village Green (Stanmore Road, opposite the New World
supermarket) on Sunday morning from 10am for approximately two hours.
Not on if wet. See map here.
Wednesday evenings, 6pm: During the summer months there are also
unofficial practices coordinated by Sir Tycho and held at Jasmine Place, Wigram (see calendar entries for details and map).
Shortly after the summer
daylight saving ends, the Wednesday practice is usually shifted to an
indoor location, or suspended until daylight saving resumes. See map here.
Email the Baronial Marshal.
[Back to calendar]
Rapier/Fencing Practices
Rapier (SCA fencing) practices are held twice a week and all are welcome,
whether to fight or to watch. Some gear is available for
beginners to try.
Sundays, noon: All year around, unofficial practices are
held behind the library at Barrington Park or at an address nearby (see the calendar) for approx. two hours from 10am Sunday morning. Not
on if wet.
Tuesday evenings, 7:30pm: Rain or shine, Tuesday rapier practice is
at the Clarence St Methodist Hall, cnr of Clarence and Nelson Streets,
Riccarton. See map here. Other Baronial events, such as Council or Medieval Stuff Nights
are often happening in parallel. A gold coin to help cover venue costs is sought on the first and fourth Tuesdays.
Email the Captain of Rapier.
[Back to calendar]
Archery
Archery (including occasional Mixed/Light combat archery) is on at
Kirkwood Intermediate, every Sunday at 2pm, wind and weather
permitting. Entrance is off Kirkwood Ave. or can drive in from
Riccarton Rd. Number 21, 23, 82, 83, 84 bus or Orbiter. If using 8 or
81, the school has an entrance on Riccarton Road. See map here.
Some gear is available for use by beginners, come and have a go!
Email the Captain of Archers.
[Back to calendar]
Equestrian
Equestrian practice happen approximately monthly, usually at Sigurd and
Eleanora's place in West Melton. Due to shifting house our next practice will probably be in September.
Practices will be announced on the Lochac Equestrian and Southron Gaard Announcements list or
you're welcome to email
Eleanora.
They are out there most weekends so people could arrange to meet us out there and use
the rings stands without it being a scheduled "practice".
[Back to calendar]
Council Meetings
The Baronial Council Meetings are held at 7:30 pm, on the second
Tuesday of the month at Clarence St Methodist Church Hall, corner
Clarence and Nelson Sts, Riccarton. All welcome - you don't need to be
an Officer to attend or speak. See map here.

[Back to calendar]

handcraft projects, usually with a different theme each month. The date
is usually the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm, but the location
moves around as it is held at a member's house.
Contact Lady Rose to find out the topic (if any) and location of the next meeting.
[Back to calendar]
